Young Writers’ Camp is a 10-day summer program designed to inspire creative thinking and promote a love of writing. Campers will experiment with different genres of writing for a variety of audiences and purposes.

Young Writer's Camp is a summer program that inspires creative thinking and writing. Students explore writing styles and methods of self-expression with new friends.

Participating Young Writers:

  • are challenged to grow and build self-confidence as writers.
  • write in an environment designed to inspire creativity.
  • receive individual attention in small groups from SDAWP writing teachers.
  • meet and share writing in a multi-age classroom with young writers from throughout the county.
  • engage in process writing: drafting, writing, revising, editing and publishing.
  • publish and receive an anthology, including writing from each camper.
  • develop writing skills as tools for self-expression.

Cost is $500. Eventbrite service fees included, $50 non-refundable processing fee included. The last day to request a partial refund for this camp is June 24, 2024.

Note: If you are considering registering your child for this camp, please only do so if they can commit to attending all 10 days. We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, but if you know in advance that your child will not be able to attend all 10 days, we kindly ask that you leave room for those who can. This way, we can offer the most consistent and valuable experience for all participants. Thank you for your cooperation.


FAQs

What is a class/group? Camp will consist of up to 24 students per class grouped by grade level and facilitated by two SDAWP credentialed writing teachers and two Teaching Assistants.

What materials will I need? All materials will be provided.

Registration Deadline Registration deadline is June 27, 2024.

What is the refund policy? No refunds after June 27, 2024.

What COVID-19 safety protocols will campers have to follow? This year we will accept students regardless of their vaccination status. To ensure the safety of all members in our campus community we will require a daily symptom screening prior to coming to campus. A signed Attestation of COVID 19 vaccination will also be required (fully vaccinated/not fully vaccinated). More details will be sent out two weeks prior to your camp start date.

Part of the California Writing Project and National Writing Project networks, the SDAWP is dedicated to the improvement of writing for ALL students. The site maintains an exemplary 43-year reputation in the professional development of K-16 educators.
